There are many challenges, struggles, and obstacles in life that we face. These are the days where we feel as though everything is falling apart and nothing is going right. I know, I’ve been there.
For a long time, there were times when I thought nothing could get me through what I’m feeling. It took me a long time to realize that there are many ways to enjoy life no matter the circumstance.
Living life to the fullest has been a goal of mine, and it started manifesting for me when I began my travels. Don’t get me wrong, the answer isn’t in traveling but in what I learnt from when I explored not only the world but myself.
I learned to enjoy the smallest things and appreciate what life has to offer, no matter how tiny they may come.
I hope that I can help you realize the positivity that exists in our world. Below, I will share the lessons I’ve learned throughout my journey in how to live an off the beaten path life.
1. Smile Always
I keep a keychain on my purse at all times that says the words “smile always.” It helps me remember that there is good in every day. Find one reason to smile each day. It could be as simple as looking up at the sky and seeing the morning sunlight.
2. Be Grateful for What You Have
There are many things in life that we should appreciate more often. They can be the smallest of things, such as being able to eat a healthy breakfast.
Remember, always make time to list out the things you’re thankful for. You can either write them down in a gratitude journal or take a couple of minutes to say them out loud.
3. Spend Time With People You Care About
Every single day is precious, so set aside some time to spend with the people you care about the most. I know that we get busy sometimes, but there are plenty of ways to let them know you’re thinking about them. Sending them a simple but thoughtful message could mean a world of difference.
4. Give Back to the World
There is not a better feeling than giving back to the world. You could volunteer your time or give food to the homeless person standing on the street corner. This doesn’t have to be elaborate. Simply try and share your blessings with someone else for the day. You could even do a pay it forward challenge.
5. Make Time For Nature
There is nothing more relaxing than spending time with nature. This could be as simple as stargazing or looking for high-ground to watch the sunset. If you are lucky enough to live around natural areas, take advantage of this, and set aside weekly hikes. You’ll feel much more rejuvenated after going on one.
6. Set a Morning and Night Routine
Routines are essential if you want to master living every day to the fullest. Make sure to set up these routines so that they will benefit you long-term.
Create habits that will allow you to learn more and will help you become healthier. Set up practices that will get you ready for the day and help you wind down at night.
7. Meditate, Stretch, Do Yoga
All three of these could easily become a part of your morning routine. I try my best to do these things when I wake up before I leave my bedroom.
Remember, you can always start small and take baby steps in the beginning. Meditate for 5 minutes, then pick a couple of simple yoga poses you’d like to try. Then afterward, do a small stretch for your body to help get ready for the day.
8. Work Towards Your Goal
Every day make sure that you are working towards your goal, even if it’s just a small step. One of the best ways of living life to the fullest is by taking actions for yourself.
Do something that will propel you closer to the things you want to achieve in life. Don’t let the distractions of a busy day detract you from your real purpose.
9. Live a Healthier Life
There’s nothing better than living a healthier life and feeling great about yourself. Remember to eat healthily and feed your mind every single day. I promise you will feel the difference.
Remember to focus on healthy living over greasy food and mind-numbing television shows.
10. Keep Your Body Moving
This point goes hand-in-hand with the point above. Make sure that you set aside time to work out or even simply walk around your neighborhood. Doing chores will also help keep your body moving while getting a few things done.
You can always start small. Give yourself a few minutes to start with until your body adapts to your newfound routine.
11. Drink Plenty of Water
This one goes in line with your health as well. I recently trained myself to drink about 3 liters of water each day. I can feel the difference in my everyday life when I don’t get the water intake my body needs.

12. Quality Alone Time
Learning to spend some quality alone time with yourself is good for your soul. It allows you to get to know yourself better and let you have the time you’ll need to reflect on the day. Check out this article for some inspiration on what you can do to have the perfect me-time.
13. Explore your Surroundings
Take a walk or go on a bike ride around town. Explore your surroundings and go on a mini-adventure. If you’re feeling bold, take the time to travel the world. Make it a mission to discover something new and take the scenery in.
Don’t forget to enjoy the journey, as it’s not always about the destination.
14. Learn Something New
Learn something new every single day, even if it’s as simple as reading one paragraph of a book. That’s it, one-third of a page that will take you less than a couple of minutes.
No matter what, keep your brain focused by taking the time to gain more knowledge about the world. You can even engage someone in a conversation who is an expert on something you’d like to know more about.
15. Do Things with Purpose
A purposeful life is key in living every day to the fullest. Do things with intention, and stop being busy for the sake of being busy.
16. Grow a Tiny Plant or Flower
Take the time to plant a sunflower or care for a small orchid in your house. Doing so could get you to see life from a different perspective.
Now, you’re in charge of a new life, and it adds a certain charm to your house. You can also get a more useful plant for your kitchen, such as basil or rosemary.
17. Break Up the Monotony of Your Life
Take a different route to work or try a new restaurant over the weekend. However you see fit, try to break up the monotony you’ve accumulated over your lifetime. Change is a good thing, because even if the new place you ate at was terrible, at least now you have a story to tell.
18. Focus on Your Mental Health
Slow down, take a deep breath, and relax for a few hours. Don’t let the stresses and anxieties of life catch up to you.
Make sure that you are prioritizing your mental health above all others. This means that you should allow yourself to take a break here and there.
19. Let Your Creativity Shine
You don’t have to be the next Picasso or Mozart to let your creativity shine. Simply do something creative each day and let your inner child out.
Draw, paint, doodle, cook, dance, or sing, choose any of the above. It will help you in realizing the fun side of life.
20. Learn to Enjoy What You’re Doing
Enjoy what you do in each and every day. If you don’t like what you’re doing, then you are on the wrong path. It won’t be easy, but keep working towards your goals and create the life you want to live.
Find happiness in the things you do, and you’ll never feel that you’ve worked a day in your life.
Live an Off the Beaten Path Life
Take a page in this book and live the life you deserve. Always take the steps forward leading to your goals. They may be small but don’t stop moving.
Never give up on pursuing the life you want to live.
If you feel stuck, know that there are always options in life. It might not be easy, but keep your sights on your dreams, work hard, and never give up. Because now, you’re enjoying life and living every day to the fullest.
